The Aegis Trust is deeply concerned by the summons issued to 26 current and former staff of the Srebrenica Memorial Center by Republika Srpska police, who have given no clear reason for doing so.

When states threaten institutions that educate about and commemorate genocide – and are allowed to do so unchecked – a dangerous precedent is set, not just for Bosnia but for genocide memory everywhere.

Srebrenica’s survivors and their families continue to live with trauma every day. Pressure like this achieves nothing except to compound their pain.

We stand with Director Emir Suljagić and everyone at the Srebrenica Memorial Center. Fighting genocide denial is not only how we create a climate in which this kind of persecution cannot continue, but also how we build a future in which genuine peace and reconciliation become possible.
